Plants!

So, we've been letting the chickens free range most of the day. If any of you are friends with me on Facebook, you know that our dog had a run in with one of the hens 2 weeks ago. Since then, they've been sharing time out. Lakelyn goes out for her morning run and then comes inside for the day. The chickens stay out until around 7. And the dog goes back out in the evening. So far, it's been working.

We haven't gotten a chance to put up a fence around the garden and so the hens have been in and out of it. They've been behaving pretty well (we haven't had any pest problems!), but they leveled our hills of squash. And we love our butternut. And watermelon. And cantaloupe. We had intended to plant more seeds today, but I found a vendor at the farmers market that had plants started from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. I got butternut, delicata, watermelon, and cantaloupe. Delicata is one of our favorites!
